Welcome to Claire Fitzjohn Counselling

Life can sometimes be unpredictable and the challenges this presents can leave us feeling overwhelmed or lost, fearful or anxious. Trying to cope with grief and loss or an unexpected life event such as serious illness, divorce, or losing a job, can lead us to lose a sense of who we are and feeling stuck about how to move forward. This can lead to troubling emotions such as fear, anxiety and even anger.

I offer a safe and sensitive way of working with you to explore your feelings and help you make sense of whatever life throws at you.

I specialise in loss, grief, and serious illness including working with people who are living with a terminal diagnosis, or who's loved one has a serious life limiting or chronic illness. The emotions brought up by this traumatic event happening to us or someone we love can also lead to other traumas and events that we have buried deep within ourselves but now come bubbling to the surface along with troubling emotions such as fear, anxiety and anger - leaving us feeling overwhelmed and feeling unable to cope.

Counselling can give you the space and time to explore your thoughts and feelings - which can be a huge relief; you might be finding it particularly difficult to express your feelings to those that are close to you.

I offer a place where you don’t have to worry about anyone else and where we can work together to help you gain insight and self-compassion, so you are able to cope more easily and find a degree of stability and peace when things feel overwhelming.

What to Expect

Starting counselling can feel daunting, and that’s completely normal. Our first session is a gentle conversation, where you can share what’s brought you here and what you’d like from counselling. You set the pace, and I will walk alongside you with warmth, understanding, and respect.

I very much want you to get the support you need from the start, as I know first-hand how important this is. To help you decide if I’m the right fit for you, I offer a free 20-minute introductory chat. While I will ask you some questions about what has brought you to counselling, it’s also a chance for you to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and see if it feels right for you, with absolutely no pressure or obligation.

I offer one-to-one counselling in person in a comfortable counselling room in Amersham, or on Zoom, or on the telephone.  My room is in an office five minutes’ walk from the station and there is parking nearby.

Counselling sessions last 50 minutes and my fees are £65 per session
